Corporate Governance is recognised as central to the effective and efficient running of any firm and a key driver in delivering outcomes. It is therefore a subject of prime importance to companies, employees and regulators.
Course Objective
This course aims to thoroughly review and explore the key concepts and features of corporate governance, allowing participants to gain the relevant knowledge and expertise to better apply best corporate governance practices.
Participants of the course will develop an understanding of the relevant theories, assess key failures in corporate governance that have highlighted the need for securing efficient corporate governance mechanisms, examine the regulatory environment where financial institutions operate, and look at how corporate governance codes have developed and the different models of corporate governance that have evolved in different countries and industries.
In addition, the course explores the role of the Board and its Directors, the shareholders, other relevant stakeholders and the gatekeepers of corporate governance. Importantly, the course also studies the concept of managing corporate risk and the overall importance of creating an efficient internal controls mechanism within an organisation so as to ensure the processes and procedures are respected and applied. Finally, the course offers a review of how Corporate Social Responsibility affects Corporate Governance and assesses the impact the Financial Crisis has had on Corporate Governance.
Having covered these thematic areas, the aim is to ensure that the participants have gained a comprehensive understanding of corporate governance both from a theoretical and practical perspective and that they are in a position to put in practice the knowledge acquired and stand out as exceptional professionals.
