Smart contracts represent a revolutionary technological breakthrough that is set to enhance the use of blockchain technology significantly. Since their introduction on Ethereum in 2015, smart contracts have driven substantial innovation across various industries. These self-executing programs operate based on predetermined conditions and are integral to numerous blockchain applications, decentralized networks, and automated blockchain operations, highlighting their versatility and broad potential.
Smart contracts, while demonstrating efficiency and utility across multiple sectors, hold particularly transformative potential in the traditional banking and financial services sector. This programme will explore the extensive scope of smart contracts, focusing on how they can fully realise the potential of blockchain and other distributed ledger technologies within the Financial Services sector. We will widely examine used smart contract standards and discuss their impact on financial instruments, payment systems and banking products.
