Beyond the Lecture: How Southampton Solent University Prepares Students for the Workplace

Discover what learning at Southampton Solent University actually looks like — active, supported, applied, and focused on your future.

Choosing a university is not only about the degree you receive. It is about how you learn, how you are supported, and whether your studies prepare you for the realities of professional life.

Join this free live webinar to explore Southampton Solent University’s student-centred, practice-led approach to teaching and learning. The session will show how Solent moves beyond traditional lecture-based education by creating an active learning environment where students are encouraged to participate, apply knowledge, receive feedback, build confidence, and develop the skills expected in today’s workplace.

The webinar is offered in the context of the new collaboration between the European Institute of Management and Finance (EIMF) and Southampton Solent University, UK, which provides eligible graduates of EIMF’s Diploma in Accounting and Financial Management with a progression opportunity towards a UK bachelor’s degree.

At its core, this session is about the learning experience behind the qualification: what studying with Solent feels like in practice, how students are supported, and how its teaching model connects academic development with career readiness.

Meet the Speaker

The webinar will be led by Jonathan Ridley, Associate Professor of Engineering Education and Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor for Education and Partnerships at Southampton Solent University.

As Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor for Education and Partnerships, Jonathan plays a key role in shaping how Solent designs learning experiences and academic partnerships. He will explain how Solent’s teaching model works in practice — and what it means for students who want an education that is active, applied, supportive, and career-focused.

What You Will Learn

By attending this webinar, you will gain a clear understanding of:

• What student-centred learning means beyond the slogan;

• How Solent uses active learning, feedback, discussion, and applied tasks;

• How a practice-led approach connects academic study with workplace expectations;

• How students build confidence, independence, professional judgement, and career-ready skills;

• How the EIMF–Solent collaboration may support eligible learners considering progression towards a UK bachelor’s degree.

Eligibility criteria apply and will be explained during the session.

Who Should Attend?

This webinar is especially relevant for:

• Current EIMF students

• Learners interested in accounting, finance, business, or management;

• Professionals considering further study through a career-oriented route;

• Prospective students who want to understand what studying with a UK university can look like in practice.

Why This Webinar Matters

Before choosing your next step in higher education, you should understand more than the name of the qualification. You should understand the learning experience behind it.
