Ethics and Integrity in the Financial Services

Given its role and importance to any functioning modern economy, ‘trust’ is an essential ingredient between providers of financial services, its clients and even wider society. Unfortunately, financial services is now consistently ranked as amongst the least trusted industry. Any wider respect it may have earned itself in the past has been replaced by suspicion, if not resentment, due to the consequences of the 2008 financial crisis that was largely induced by recklessness of some practitioners. The financial services industry must now regain the trust it has lost through a demonstrable commitment to integrity and ethics applied to all aspects of its work.

This workshop is ideal for any professional working within the financial services and professional services sector.

  • Furthermore, you will consider how ethics and integrity is applied in a micro context within financial services, gain insight into ‘behavioral economics’ and its impact on ethics and integrity in the provision of financial services.
  • Lastly, you will consider your role in ensuring a culture of openness and honesty in your workplace as well as share perspectives on practical ethical dilemmas.

Chartered FCSI, President of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) in Cyprus

Petros has worked as a finance professional within the securities and investments industry for over 20 years in the areas of private banking, fund management stockbroking, private equity and principal trading. For the past 10 years Petros has been on the board of a number of micro-finance institutions in Eastern Europe and is currently employed as a Regional Governance Advisor for World Vision International – one of the world’s largest organisations in the field of humanitarian aid and assistance.

Petros is an honours graduate in Accountancy a Chartered Management Accountant, a diploma-holding member of the Institute of Directors and a Certificate of the Institute of Risk Management. He sits on the Ethics & Risk and Human Resource & Training Committees of the Cyprus Investment Funds Association.
