The Second Annual Conference on Corporate Governance, jointly organised by the European Institute of Management and Finance (EIMF) and the Chartered Governance Institute UK & Ireland, brought together leading professionals, regulators, academics and board members to examine how corporate governance must respond to an increasingly complex business environment. Held on 22 September 2026 at the University of Cyprus in Nicosia, the conference explored the changing responsibilities of boards amid regulatory, technological and societal change.
Across ten conference sessions, discussions addressed governance through regulation, artificial intelligence, ethical leadership, governance in public entities and family businesses, emerging risks and the future challenges facing boards. The conference also featured findings from the first annual corporate governance survey conducted by EIMF’s Centre for Good Governance, offering new insights into governance practices and emerging priorities in Cyprus.
A consistent message emerged throughout the conference: effective governance goes beyond formal structures, policies and regulatory compliance. It depends on the quality of boardroom decision-making, constructive challenge, reliable information, ethical judgement and the willingness to accept accountability. As organisations confront AI, technological disruption, regulatory complexity and increasingly interconnected risks, boards must continue to develop their collective capabilities while maintaining a clear focus on long-term organisational interests.
The conference further highlighted the importance of preparedness, continuing director education, independence of thought and organisational cultures that encourage concerns to be raised and assumptions to be challenged. Above all, trust emerged as both an outcome and an important test of effective corporate governance.
The Conference Report, prepared by the EIMF Centre for Good Governance, brings together the principal discussions, insights, and practical takeaways from the conference and provides a concise overview of the priorities likely to shape boardrooms in the years ahead.
