Irene Loizidou Nicolaidou
Irene Loizidou Nicolaidou is a registered Barrister-at-Law since 2000 with focus in corporate law for 15 years. In 2015, she was appointed as Commissioner for the Protection of Personal Data of Cyprus, a position she held for ten years. During her tenure, she was elected Vice-Chair of the European Data Protection Board (EDPB), playing a key role in shaping data protection policy across the EU. She delivered lectures and awareness sessions to diverse audiences including schools, universities, and professional bodies, promoting a culture of privacy, transparency, and accountability across all sectors of society. In 2020, she was appointed as the Information Commissioner of Cyprus, responsible for overseeing transparency and access to public information. Her public service career began earlier when, in 2001, she was elected Municipal Councillor of Engomi Municipality for three consecutive terms. In this capacity, she served as a full member of the Cyprus Delegation to the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, where she was twice elected Vice-President of the Monitoring Committee. She chaired several committees in Engomi Municipality. Between 2011 and for four years she served as President of the Business Professional Women’s (BPW) Association of Kyrenia, promoting gender equality and leadership development for professional women. She holds an LLB in Law from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and an MBA from the Cyprus International Institute of Management (CIIM). In addition, she holds a Diploma in Professional Journalism from the Professional Journalist Workshop in Athens and is an Accredited Mediator certified by the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR).
